Tim Logan, Nathan Spencer, and Shaun Wilson formed Sky Machine in 2008 to make cool stuff. Since then they’ve been churning out short films that have screened around the globe, creating the occasional ridiculous advertising campaign, and have developed a pile of original IP.
Screen Tasmania is a State Government agency responsible for supporting and developing the state's film, television and multimedia industries by increasing the amount of independent screen production occurring in Tasmania, Australia. Noirhouse was the first project funded through the new Digital Media Fund.
TIM 'SPITTIN' BULLETS' LOGAN
WRITER
When we don’t have him locked in a bunker writing scripts, he runs off and does stand-up comedy, in Australia and California. We really have to get a better lock.
SHAUN 'SMOKING GUN' WILSON
DIRECTOR / PRODUCER
Fits shooting Noirhouse in between repeated viewings of Back to the Future. Proud single-malt advocate.
NATHAN 'TWO HATS' SPENCER
PRODUCER / 'DETECTIVE'
Our chiselled gumshoe by day, and half of the producing team by night. You might wonder at which point he sleeps. He doesn’t.
FIONA 'FEDORA' McCONAGHY
PRODUCER
To take us beyond the first three episodes, Fiona's stepped on board. After having dealt with outlaws like Michael Howe, Noiries should be no problem.
MELANIE 'THE DOCTOR' IRONS
NADIA
When she’s not completing a PhD, or running boot camp twice a day, or saving Tasmania from bushfire aftermath, she’s Nadia.
MICK 'SUSPENDERS' DAVIES
THE RUSSIAN
Once a rising talent in the Tasmanian comedy scene, now making himself known in the national one. Mick’s renowned for making pretty much any role funny.
SARAH 'SONGBIRD' WADSLEY
ALICE
Tasmanian born WAAPA graduate Sarah Wadsley is more than just a blonde with ambition. Now based in Sydney, Sarah’s an animal lover with a heart of gold, and part-time ninja.
MATT 'BLEEDER' BURTON
SALESMAN
Part comedy icon, part mysterious world traveller, part writer, two parts flour, one egg yolk, mix heavily and leave in refrigerator to set.
ROBERT 'THE VOICE' MANION
HIPSTER
ROSE 'DANCE-OFF' KOKKORIS
LIBRARIAN
MICK 'MAGIC' LOWENSTEIN
LONG HAIRED MAN
SIMON 'LIGHTS OUT' GRAY
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Somehow, Simon manages to crank through an alarming amount of shots in four days, make them look beautiful, and keep us amused while he does so.
LIZ 'DOLLFACE' GOULDING
HAIR / MAKEUP / WARDROBE DESIGNER
If our characters didn’t look cool, they wouldn’t look noir. Drawing on her years of experience as a stylist, Liz crafted the stunning look of our cast, from their hair all the way down to their shoes.
GUS 'MOVER & SHAKER' SMITH
PRODUCTION DESIGNER
Not only is Gus an art department guy, he builds everything from kitchens to museum installations. He made Noirhouse feel like our old school characters really lived there.
PAUL 'MAKE IT MOODY' RUBIE
ART DIRECTOR
The glorious Paul could always be found sauntering about piecing together the bizarre needs of Noirhouse, letting nothing faze him.
HEATH 'POOL CUE' BROWN
COMPOSER
Our long time collaborator and renowned composer Heath Brown returns again, with a beautiful and energetic score that drives Noirhouse.
CLARE 'COOL BOOKS' GRAY
LINE PRODUCER
There’s a lot of spinning plates in the air when you’re in production, especially when you’re trying to shoot a series in four days. The always calm and organised Clare keeps those plates spinning.
MATTHEW 'NEAT WITH ICE' ROOKE
FIRST ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
It’s a particular kind of magic, keeping a mad rush of a shoot on schedule, without everyone feeling rushed. Matt’s the calm nerve centre of the complex beast that is a film set.
REBECCA 'SOIREE SWEETHEART' THOMSON
ASSOCIATE PRODUCER
Rebecca, an infamous Hobart filmmaker, has been helping out in all kinds of ways - but in particular making sure our launch is a hell of a party.
ADAM 'MR FIXIT' ZWAR
SCRIPT EDITOR
Creator of classics like the original Wilfred and the Agony series, Adam helped us get our scripts singing before we went into production. Now they won’t shutup.
CARLIE 'SNAPSHOT' DEVINE
PHOTOGRAPHER
Noirhouse is mostly moving pictures, but you would have seen a lot of beautiful stills around the place - like on this website. All thanks to Carlie.
TOM 'PENCILS' SMITH
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
While we want the episodes looking hot, everything else needs to look hot too. Tom couches the episodes in a shiny context. And he made that cool logo.
